What happens when I edit a published Lightroom photo again?

Open the photo in Lightroom Classic and make your changes as usual. Then return to its collection under the LR to Photos Publish Service.

1. Review the photos waiting to be published, including the revised image.
2. Click Publish and let the publish finish.
3. Open the receiving album in Photos on your Mac and inspect the new version. Look for the actual change you made, such as a crop or a colour adjustment.
4. Once iCloud Photos has synced, open the same album on your iPhone.

This sends another rendered copy of the edit. It does not overwrite the existing Photos item in place. The distinction matters because the earlier copy may still be visible beside the new one.

The Skip photos whose content hasn’t changed option can skip an export that matches the file previously published for that Lightroom photo. Leaving it enabled is a useful starting point for repeat publishing.

A changed export is different: the plugin imports a fresh Photos item so you can see the revised edit. It keeps the old item rather than deleting it for you. Changing export settings can also change the rendered file, even when the visible edit seems similar.

This feature is not a promise that duplicates can never occur. It tracks previous publishing for the Lightroom photo; it is not a general scan of your Photos library for every matching image.

With Collect replaced photos in album enabled, the previous item is added to the configured album. The default path is /LR Photos/Out of date.

Being added there does not remove it from the library or its existing albums. You may see both versions in the destination album. The Out of date album gives you a place to review older items; it is not a bin that the plugin empties.

Check that the newer version arrived before removing an older one. An item can be marked Out of date before its replacement finishes importing, so the album label alone does not prove that the later publish succeeded.

First decide whether you want to remove a picture from an album or delete the picture from Photos altogether. These are different actions.

• Remove it from a normal album: the picture remains in your Photos library. Removing an item from Out of date this way does not reclaim its library storage.
• Delete it from the library: the picture is removed from the library and its albums. With iCloud Photos enabled, that deletion also applies on your other synced devices.

Apple’s Photos keyboard shortcuts distinguish Delete for removing an item from an album from Command-Delete for library deletion. Its deletion guide explains Recently Deleted. Inspect the new copy before choosing library deletion for the old one.

Metadata-only changes such as captions and keywords do not automatically trigger republishing in this plugin. If you need to send those changes, use Mark to Republish, publish again and check the result. The export settings still determine which metadata is included.

Publishing goes one way, from Classic into Photos. An edit you make to the Photos copy does not update your Lightroom edit. Keep making the changes you want to publish in Classic so you know which version you are sending.

Removing a picture from the Lightroom published collection does not delete its copy in Photos. Review Photos separately when you want to clear previously published pictures.

If you delete the destination item in Photos, an unchanged repeat Publish is not guaranteed to restore it. Likewise, putting a previously published photo into another collection is not a guaranteed second-album operation.
